Parents,
This week we continued our own mini-economy in Grade Four for our World of Work unit. This unit is all about maintaining a simple economic system, working with other companies as well as other people in the same company, and of course making money.
Also, today students got their TIS yearbooks today. Enjoy them and have a great weekend!
Thanks, as always, for your support at home.

Grade Four Teachers
Mathematics:
Throughout the year, we have been reinforcing addition, subtraction, and multiplication. Please practice at home with your ‘Xtra Math’ account!
This unit we are looking at probability and reviewing the math concepts that we covered this year. We are also using calculators to solve and check math work. This week we played some games with dice and cards to help our understanding of probability.
In addition to working on Mathletics, students are encouraged to practice multiplication times tables at the following websites:
www.multiplication.com (the games section is best, especially Granny Prix and Jungle Jim!)
Literacy:
We are now enjoying our new read aloud A Tale Dark and Grimm. We are looking forward to hearing what happens in this twist on a fairytale we thought we knew. This week we were on the edge of our seats at some of the things that happened.
Units of Inquiry:
Unit of Inquiry: How we organize ourselves
Title: World of Work
Central Idea: People in organizations are interconnected and interdependent.
Lines of Inquiry:
Creating and maintaining a simple economic system
Types of jobs within an organization or company
How businesses are interconnected
Concept Questions:
We started our companies and get busy working on our economy.

Students in Grade 4 have made their own mini-economy in class as part of our final unit of inquiry, World of Work. We have ten interconnected companies working to make board games that they will sell to the Grade 1 students next week: inventors, advertisers, market researchers, graphic designers, and manufacturers. Companies and groups working together, we are getting to understand, are very interdependent: they need each other.

Parents,
This week we started our own mini-economy in Grade Four that we call World of Work. This unit is all about maintaining a simple economic system, working with other companies as well as other people in the same company, and of course making money. Ask your child about what is going on in school these next few weeks. They will have some interesting stories to share.
Thanks, as always, for your support at home.
