How many words in a newspaper?

Grade Four students had a simple task this afternoon: find out how many words are in an average newspaper. We didn’t count every single word, of course, but tried to estimate based on words per paragraph, words per page, and words per section. It wasn’t easy to do and no two groups got the same answer, but it did leave us feeling more confident about the process of estimation. Our next question was how many pages would it take to make a million-word newspaper?
